FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Family of God:
SYNOD OF BISHOPS: Pope Francis has announced a Synod of Bishops which will take place in 2023 in Rome. The theme of this synod is “Towards a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.” The Synodal process was opened this year 10th October 2021. In his homily, Pope Francis stated that “Celebrating a Synod means walking on the same road, walking together. Let us look at Jesus. First, he encounters the rich man on the road; he then listens to his questions, and finally he helps him discern what he must do to inherit eternal life. Encounter, listen and discern. I would like to reflect on these three verbs that characterize the Synod.”
Pope Francis is asking each and every one of us to become involved in the synodal process leading up to the Synod of Bishops to be held in Rome in 2023. The Pope tells us that the point of a synodal Church “is to listen, as the entire People of God, to what the Holy Spirit is saying to the Church.”
The diocese has begun a working document leading to the synod. Questionnaires and seminars will be provided to gather more information on our reflection on the Church today.  For more information on the Synod check the Diocesan website: www.hamiltondiocese.com
TOWARDS “A VIBRANT, PRAYERFUL MISSION-ORIENTED PARISH”: Beginning Advent this year 2021, the Pastoral Council and I will continue our work together with the whole parish, to reflect and engage being a Vibrant, Prayerful Mission-Oriented Parish. We want to grow into a community of prayer united in Christ, welcome more young people and young families into the church, engage and re-evangelize our seniors, and grow into mature disciples of Christ. This will bring us to outline many goals and work out strategies to achieve them. Please be involved in the new era of St. John’s “Vibrant, Prayerful Mission-Oriented Parish”
DEVOTION BEFORE MASS: As part of our mission to grow into a community of prayer united in Christ, we shall have a 5 minutes devotion before Mass. This will begin on the First Sunday (Weekend) of Advent. Prayer cards will be made available in the pews.
Let us all contribute to make St. John’s a vibrant, prayerful, mission-oriented parish.
Peace and blessings,
Fr. Andrew
