FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Peace and joy to you! I have few things to share with you this weekend.
LET US SING TOGETHER: Our responses during Mass are great; that is a good sign and a good attitude to worship, thanks to you! I want to encourage all parishioners who would like to sing to participate in singing during Mass. This would create an uplifted spirit of worship and make the Mass livelier. I have therefore asked the choir to choose common songs for our Liturgies this year to encourage all of us to participate in singing. I hope we shall give off our best efforts to make St. John Parish a wonderful faith community.
WELCOME TO MSGR. FRANCIS TWUM-BARIMAH: This weekend we welcome my Vicar General, Msgr. Twum-Barimah, from Ghana who is visiting with me for his Sabbatical Year. He will be with us and help with Masses until next year January 2020. Please show him the wonderful Canadian hospitality we have.
PARISH FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS: I shall provide you with our financial report very soon to let you know where we stand. Thanks for your continued generosity. God bless you all.
Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

“Blessed are you when people hate you…exclude and insult you, and denounce your name…on account of the Son of Man.” Luke 6:22
All of us have been in situations when someone has made a negative comment or joke about God or our Catholic faith. How did you respond? Did you stay silent or pretend to go along with the crowd because you didn’t want to cause waves and then, later, you felt bad? Know that God is with you all the time, the Holy Spirit will put the right words in your mouth. Pray for the strength and courage to proclaim our faith to others, especially during uncomfortable situations.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL REPORT TO THE PARISH
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organization whose mission is to live the Gospel message by serving Christ through the poor with love, respect, justice and joy.
On behalf of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society at St. John the Baptist Church we would like to provide the parish with an update regarding our activities.
Thanks to the generous contributions of our parishioners we are able to help those in need by providing food vouchers and gift cards redeemable at local grocery stores. In 2018 we made 93 house calls to 173 adults and 59 children.
We also coordinate the annual Christmas Angel Tree program. This program delivers Christmas presents to those in our parish community as well as to the residents of a local retirement home and a residence for developmentally challenged adults. In 2018 we delivered Christmas presents to 175 individuals and provided $995 in gift cards to allow our clients to purchase food at Christmas time. This year will mark the 14th year that this program has operated.
We currently have 16 active committee members but we can always use additional volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and want to experience the rewards of helping those in need please contact the Church rectory.
On September 23rd, two of our members received 15 Year Merit Awards at the Annual Ozanam Dinner. The recipients were:
Charitable Donation Receipts have been issued for your Saint Vincent de Paul donations for the year 2018.
Finally, we would like to thank Father Andrew Quarshie for his spiritual guidance and for Rina Sheehan and Lisa White for their continued support and assistance.
Most importantly we want to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the continued financial support from our parishioners. Your contribution allows us to meet the needs of the less fortunate in our community.
