From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Parishioners, Happy New Liturgical Year!

Advent is here! The year 2020 brought along its own challenges and revealed some blessings too. Regardless of the ups and downs, we give glory to God and entrust the course of our lives and human history into His hands. We thank God for a new Liturgical Year and pray that the New Year 2021 affords us a better life than before.

Advent season is always an exciting time leading up to Christmas. It is a season that provides us with the opportunity to renew our commitment to our faith and deepen our relationship with God through Christ in the Spirit. During Advent we prepare to meet Jesus who is born to us; we also prepare for his final coming in the end of days.

As we start the New Liturgical Year, let us all make firm commitments to our faith, deepen our love for God, become true witnesses of Christ and contribute our Time, Talents and Money to grow our parish

Happy New Year, Happy Advent!

Fr. Andrew

Latest Heart to Heart from Bishop Crosby, OMI – Diocese of Hamilton (hamiltondiocese.com)

REGISTRATION FOR CHRISTMAS MASSES
Our Christmas Mass schedule will be available on our website and posted on the bulletin boards. This year, due to Covid-19 protocols and attendance restrictions, we are encouraging parishioners to call the office to reserve seats for all family members who will be attending. Those who have not reserved will be seated on a first come-first serve basis, and once the Church is full, the doors will be closed. We are currently looking for volunteers to act as ushers for the Christmas and New Year Masses. Please contact the office if you would like to help.

PARISH PRAYER NETWORK
If you have loved ones on the Prayer Network, please call Ginette at 905-746-9976 or the office at 905-544-2100 during the last week of the month to update your prayer request if you would like it to continue. Call anytime for new prayer requests.

MISSALS 2021
Missals for the new year, beginning on the First Sunday of Advent, November 29, are available for $5 each. A limited number of Children’s Missals are available for $7 each.

ANNIVERSARY MASS 2021
As the restrictions from COVID-19 continue and for the safety of all concerned, a decision has been made to cancel the annual Anniversary Mass scheduled for June of 2021. Bishop Crosby would still love to offer congratulations to all those who will married 25, 40, 50, 60 and 60 plus years in 2021, so you will be able to register your anniversary on line and we will send you the certificate you would have received if the Mass had gone ahead. More information will be sent in January about how to register.

CATECHETICAL CORRECPONDENCE COURSES
Programs are available for children from Kindergarten through to High School not currently receiving religious instruction. Preparation for First Communion and Confirmation for children not in Catholic Schools also available. Families work through the programs at home. Contact Monica in the Catechesis Office at 905-528-7988, ext. 2238 or check out the website at www.hamiltondiocese.com and click on the Catechesis Office for more information, printable registration forms or to register online.
First Communion and Confirmation will take place in February at St. John Parish, so please register soon.

VOCATIONS
Second Sunday of Advent: John the Baptist is sent by God to prepare the way for His Son. In our present time God sends priests, religious and deacons to prepare the people to receive His Son. If you think God is calling you to a Church Vocation, contact Fr. Michael King, Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Hamilton, at 905-528-7988 ext. 2246, or email vocations@hamiltondiocese.com or visit the website hamiltondiocese.com

DIRECTIVES FOR OUR SAFETY
We ask that you continue to do a self-assessment before coming to Mass. If you feel unwell or have been in contact with someone who has Covid-19, please do not attend Mass.
Please do not remove your mask during Mass. Those with certain medical conditions are not required to wear a mask. If you need to cough or sneeze, please do so into your elbow.
For Communion, an usher will be present and will usher one row at a time to the front. For those on the King St. side, please receive Communion from the Priest or Minister on the same side as where you were sitting. Do not cross to the other side. Communion must be received in the hand, then remove your mask, consume the Host and replace your mask before walking to your seat.
Offertory envelopes will be collected as you exit the Church at the end of Mass.
Parishioners sitting nearest to the doors should exit first, and please remember to physically distance inside and outside the Church.
We are not able to gather in the foyers or body of the church before or after Mass, so please leave the building as soon as Mass is over as it needs to be cleaned and sanitized after each use.
We are always in need of volunteers, as it takes many people in order for all of us to share in the celebration of Mass. Please call the parish office if you are willing to help at one of our Masses.
Thank you for adhering to these safety directives.

November 25, 2020

To All Our St. John the Baptist Parishioners:

Due to the recent COVID measures putting our city into the red zone, the St. Vincent De Paul committee has decided to make some changes to our Angel Tree Program in consideration of everyone’s health and safety.

Instead of purchasing gifts for the Angels on our Christmas tree, we are asking for cash donations to allow us to purchase gift cards for our clients and school families in need.

If you would like to make a financial contribution, you can do so any time before noon on Sunday, December 20th either by:

  • putting money in an envelope marked “Angel Tree Program” and placing it in the regular Sunday collection
  • dropping off a donation at the Parish office, or
  • contacting the Parish office to arrange for a Committee member to pick up your donation.

Cheques should be made payable to “St. Vincent de Paul.” If you would like a tax receipt for your donation, please indicate your envelope number or name and address on your donation envelope.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity!

The St. Vincent De Paul Committee at St. John the Baptist Church
