BAPTIZING YOUR CHILD

The Catholic Community of St. John the Baptist Parish joyfully welcomes your new family member as a member of the Christian Community and our Parish family.

As a Parish family, we wish to walk with you as your child grows in the life of Jesus with the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation – so that your child may join with us in giving witness to Jesus Christ by sharing His gift of love with others.

We celebrate the first of these Sacraments, Baptism, as your child is born into and begins to live the life of the Risen Christ, the life of the Holy Spirit.

Baptisms are celebrated, by appointment, usually on the second Sunday of each month. A meeting with the Pastor, Fr. Andrew, will take place at least a month in advance. As you prepare for your child’s Baptism, we encourage you to attend Mass with your family.

Godparents represent the Parish community and speak for the community’s desire to assist you in the formation of your child as a member of the Catholic Church. They should be good examples of active, Christian living and members of the Church in good standing. At least one Godparent must be a practicing Roman Catholic who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and is at least 16 years of age. A copy of the Godparent’s updated Baptismal Certificate that includes the date of Confirmation must be submitted to the Parish, along with the completed Baptismal Registration form.

As good stewards of God’s gifts, we express our gratitude to God for His gifts by returning a portion back to God. Your gratitude for the gift of Baptism, which makes your child a child of God, is customarily expressed by an offering at the ceremony.
